“Kick it with the Pack” Welcome Week, Aug. 25 – Sept. 2

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada welcome students to campus this fall with a week-long series of events, including a concert

RENO, Nev. – From Aug. 25 through Sept. 2, the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) will offer a week of events to welcome students to campus and encourage them to be involved with all of the opportunities available at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Kick it with the Pack Welcome Week, an annual production at the University, is hosted by one of ASUN’s departments of programming, Flipside Productions. ASUN President Huili Weinstock hopes the week will set the stage for students’ academic success while helping them to socialize.

“Welcome Week will kick off the upcoming year,” Weinstock said. “Students can come together and experience the diverse culture that the University of Nevada has to offer.”

This year’s most anticipated event is the Unity Tour 2012 Concert, featuring 311, Slightly Stooped and SOJA, to take place at 5:45 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2. The event is open to the public. More information and tickets are available at www.renolabordaze.com.

Saturday, Aug. 25
Residence Hall Association Block Party
8:30 p.m.-midnight, newly renovated Nye-Canada Courtyard Plaza
Student will enjoy a block party bash with music, mocktails, inflatables, a photo booth and giveaways.

Monday, Aug. 27
Back-to-School Breakfast
9-11 a.m., Gateway Plaza and Hilliard Plaza
Students can start the first day of school off right with a free breakfast.

Wolf Shop Snapshot
Beginning Aug. 27 and ending Sept. 9
The Wolf Shop Snapshot contest encourages students to attend events and show their school spirit by taking a picture of themselves at each event. Students will then post the pictures on the Nevada Wolf Shop’s Facebook page. The student who completes the most Wolf Shop Snapshots will win great prizes.

Tuesday, Aug. 28
Nevada Living Learning Community Grand Opening Celebration
4-6 p.m., Nevada Living Learning Community Residence Hall Courtyard
Attendees will get a peek at the classrooms and living areas in this unique building. Food, fun and a short dedication ceremony will officially open the Nevada Living Learning Community.

Wednesday, Aug. 29
Register-to-Vote Barbeque
Noon-1 p.m., Gateway Plaza
Students can register to vote and grab a free burger during this event hosted by ASUN’s Department of Legislative Affairs, helping students become more active citizens. 

Wolf-it-Down Pancake Breakfast
11:30 p.m.-1 a.m., The Quad
During this traditional welcome event, students will enjoy a late-night pancake extravaganza and live music while mingling with fellow students. Students can catch a ride from the residence halls to the Quad from the Campus Escort Service.

Thursday, Aug. 30
Multicultural Greek Council Yard Show
6 p.m., Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center lawn
Each of the Multicultural Greek Council’s 10 culturally based fraternities and sororities will perform a step and stroll to showcase their organization. Free food is available.

The Avengers Costume Contest and Movie
8 p.m., Gateway Plaza, movie starts at 9 p.m.
Students can dress up as their favorite superhero and take photos with Ironman, Captain America, Hulk and Thor. Cotton candy, snow cones and flavored popcorn will be available, and prizes will be given to winners of the costume contest.

Friday, Aug. 31
Friday Festival
4-7 p.m., The Quad
The Friday Festival will provide free food, games and representatives from dozens of student clubs and organizations for students to join and pursue extracurricular activities.

Sunday, Sept. 2
Unity Tour 2012 Concert, featuring 311, Slightly Stooped and SOJA
5:45 p.m., Lawlor Events Center, doors open at 5 p.m.
The Summer Unity Tour is making a stop on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Students can purchase tickets at a discounted rate from the Nevada Wolf Shop with a University I.D.
